Archive question

Postby chip shetfield » Wed Jan 23, 2013 03:44

Hey, apologies if this has been answered before. I'm just wondering if the Archive Cardiacs material (minus the Piffols) are the same recordings from the Obvious Identity and Toy World? The liner notes on Archive say that they songs were recorded between 1977-1979, whereas Toy World was apparently recorded in 1980 and 1981... I lost my crappy rips of both those tapes so I haven't actually heard either in a couple years.

As far as I know, they are exactly the same, but have been remastered slightly. As you know, the missing tracks were damaged.
Hello little doggy,
My, you are a nice dog,
What did you just say then?
You could do some tricks! Oh, good, then will you show me?
My word that's a good one!
Would you like a cigarette?
No you can't, they're bad for you!

I must very crappy rips of Toy World and Obvious Identity then, cos to my ears Archive sounds gloriously fantastic by comparison!

I've never got my hands on the original cassettes (apart from The Seaside), although some of the members on here must have them. Couldn't someone do a slightly 'remastered' FLAC of them?

Same here, the versions I had were pretty unlistenable, and I don't consider myself a snobby audiophile. I'd love to find decent transfers if they ever surface.

Hmm yeah I figured they must have been the same versions but then I checked the liners and thought it was weird... I wonder why the discrepancy?
