I've spent the last week or so on a tour bus with these fellas (supporting Anathema, the band I guitar tech for) and I can honestly say they're one of the best things I've heard in years - something like Boards of Canada as a full band with Beach Boys harmonies and loud guitars. Lovely blokes as well - I just got main songwriter Sam into Cardiacs by playing him Dirty Boy. I'd strongly recommend catching them live if you get the chance. They've been trying out material from their new (as yet unreleased) album and it sounds like it's going to be a cracker. Here's their myspace anyway:

Re: North Atlantic Oscillation
There's some really nice bits, but they drift on a bit aimlessly for me much of the time.
Re: North Atlantic Oscillation
I know what you mean but they're only young lads and there's tremendous potential there.
Re: North Atlantic Oscillation
I agree there's definitely potential there, good luck to them! Grappling Hooks has a sort of transitional feel for me, will be interesting to hear what they end up sounding like.
Re: North Atlantic Oscillation
They're doing a few shows in the UK this week - I'd recommend having a look if you get the chance:
26.09 // LEEDS THE WELL
27.09 // LONDON CARGO
28.09 // BRIGHTON THE HOPE
I'm off to the Leeds show tomorrow - anyone up for it?

I loved their last album, Foma!
Good vibes, good tunes (even if they can try more) and "the guys can play" too...

Can't make it this week, but been listening again to Grappling Hooks and parts of it really are nice.

Off the new album The Third Day, the very excellent August

The album arrived here at Fugazi central on Saturday and has been played many times - it's not as immediate as Fog Electric, it's more subtle with more "understated" songs, but hangs together very nicely as a complete piece of music, and is best listened to from start to finish. I recommend it to the pond.

There was one chord in there at a cadence point that I found quite striking. I wish I had the ear to spell it, but it gave a general impression of simultaneous major and minor, although I don't quite know if both major and minor thirds were involved. I like the video of the little organisms as machinery and how well-synched it was to the music; I always appreciate that.
It was melodically subtle and slightly mathy (a dropped beat in the second bar) but overall a little too wall-of-sound for my general tastes. Good music to hear in a club, though. Cheers.

Looking forward to hearing the new one. I didn't care for their first album much and all but wrote them off, but the last one was terrific and i ended up playing it a lot. Shades of Bark Psychosis and late-period Talk Talk
Edit: Hey, guess what? I'm a dick. I was thinking of These New Puritans
