Harry Merry

Postby whippersnapper » Tue Aug 15, 2006 16:58

I'm a big fan since last week. I bought his CD and I'm freaking out here. I do admit when you first listen to it you think "This is sick music made by a mentally retarded junkie playing on a cheapo keyboard", but I swear his songs stick in your head like glue. And most songs are very smart multi-layered compositions, with a very psychadelic feel.
Harry Merry (Harry den Hartog) is from Rotterdam (Holland) and you can hear it RATHER clearly, as his pronounciation is mega crap! Especially the song Moody Busdriver, where he is repeating this sentence:
"If dere is any wan wid somting to complain, then you can say it now and leave or else be QUIEEEEET!!"

Okay, he sings like a brontosaurus. But boy, is it catchy and funny.

He's either a genius or a nutcase ... possibly both. Either way, it's quite interesting! I wonder if John Shuttleworth and Max Tundra somehow had a kid...

It's just crazy! Last couple of days I wake up half an hour before my alarm clock rings, with Harry Merry songs ringing in my head. If you really want to hear the work of God and the Devil mixed in one piece listen to this:

I'd say it was music with a sense of humour, unless that was supposed to sound dismissive ;)
You should check out sexton ming whippersnapper, I think you'd like him too. http://www.sextonming.co.uk/music.php

I honestly don't know what to make of this - I feel like I just pushed a cotton bud too far into my ear...

Not sure...the vocals sound like a cross between Iggy Pop, Nick Cave and fifty thousand cigarettes...the music reminds me of something, but I can't for the life of me think what it is... :-x

Okay, it's true, the quality in this is very bad (vocals, keyboard, timing, etc.) but what keeps me hooked is the compositions. They're so smart.

*update* Again I woke up this morning with HM in my head. It's scary!

WOW! Wonderful that you ordered them! I'm so glad you like it. I really thought it was my 'problem'. I didn't order The Shunt, so I don't know Rock n Roll postman :( But I do have (from myspace) the Sharky Super machine. It's CRAZZZYYY!!

Oh yeah, and you can find more audio streams and video clips here:

Worryingly, I did too! I mean, I still can't decide if it's fantastic or terrible, but somehow it's wormed itself into my brain. He's like a really awful Dutch version of Helen Love... but I've ordered the CD anyway :)

Eadric, You just made my day! Glad that you want to give it a try.

Although I (AGAIN) woke up with Moody Busdriver in my head this morning, I keep loving this to bits!
