Just picked up a copy of the Rough Trade CD for £30 on ebay!

This will be my first physical Cardiacs item. I'm really looking forward to hearing the difference between the (sh)iTunes files and the original mastering.

The CD version destroys all mp3 versions! I trust you got the original Rough Trade version? The rereleased version is complete meh!

If the cover looks like this:

You're in for a treat!

But, if the cover looks like this:

You'd better get your money back!!!

Enjoy and play very, very loud!!!
Hello little doggy,
My, you are a nice dog,
What did you just say then?
You could do some tricks! Oh, good, then will you show me?
My word that's a good one!
Would you like a cigarette?
No you can't, they're bad for you!

Brilliant! It's just that when ABC 'remastered' it for re-release, they FUBAR'd it. The Rough Trade version is greatly coveted.

I'm pretty excited to hear the Rough Trade version. I've got pretty good headphones, and like to have all of my audio files as FLACs for maximum fidelity.

I can definitely hear that the iTunes files are A) low bit rate B) totally brickwalled. I'm sure there are all kinds of subtleties I'm missing.

My Rough Trade CD arrived, and it's in perfect condition!

There is indeed a large difference between the two versions. Everything sounds cleaner, dynamics are much better, and the volume levels are perfect. Really happy with it, and to finally own a physical Cardiacs item. I'm not sure why they bothered remastering it in the first place, as this is pretty well perfect.

They had no choice but to remaster it because the original version went down with Rough Trade when they went bankrupt. I have no idea who remastered it from the original tapes, but I think they must have been someone on work placement!

I think Tim told brother abnego they'd accidentally left a drawing pin rattling around in the bucket. :D

The more I listen to it, the more I think that the Rough Trade Heaven Born might have the best mastering job of any Cardiacs release. Guns is up there though.

i thought the conclusion was that the iTunes version used the Rough Trade master, is this the case?
I have the ABC version on CD, and got the Rough Trade one through iTunes Match service... or so I thought...

OK, so are the tracks you got from iTunes radically different from the ABC CD version, because they should be.
