Re: Heaven Born and Ever Bright
i'm fairly certain the itunes version is the remastered one.
Re: Heaven Born and Ever Bright
I keep forgetting to check. I'm sure someone had suggested otherwise, although I suspect you are right.
I'd really love the original... If someone might have good quality files to hand. I have the CD, but the new master.

Alreet.
I bought the Rough Trade version of this album on eBay, and had the original anyway.
I got the iTunes tracks via their match service, I assume this is the same as the versions for sale. There's no reason why not...
Anyway. The iTunes version is the original master. If you want the best sounding version, iTunes is yr go-to.
Ace.

Yes, so to sum up...
iTunes version - not rubbish
Rough Trade CD version - not rubbish
Alphabet Remastered CD version - rubbish
There, that was easy

Re: Heaven Born and Ever Bright
Correct.
It all suggests that very little changed on the master, other than a volume boost. I don't know as it's even dynamically much different, just the volume was pushed up.
Did this happen to anything else on the '95 reissues?

Re: Heaven Born and Ever Bright
It still affected the nuances of that album somewhat.
I'm not sure if other reissues are affected, but I've stuck with the original issues where I didn't have them in the first place anyway.

Oh yeah, it just crunched everything up. It sounds awful by comparison, the original version is leagues and leagues better.
I wonder if they even mastered it from the unmastered mixes, or just off the back of the first master.
I only ask because I've just got an original Songs for Ships and Irons, and it's REALLY quiet across the CD. I don't have a '95 press to compare though.
I guess Little Man had some work because there's an extra track in there.

If your Songs... CD is the Rough Trade version, then that's what it sounds like. I don't know what the remaster sounds like, but I haven't heard any complaints yet.
I don't like the inclusion of I'm Eating in Bed on A Little Man..., as it jars my listening experience. Luckily, I've got the Torso version of the CD

Re: Heaven Born and Ever Bright
I has a tricksome question....
Tonight i just bought 4 CDs from the online shop, HBaEB was one of them. I understand that this is not the version to has !
Is there any way i can get hold of an Rough Trade mix ?
Are there, apologies up front, any torrents of that particular mix about in the blackest, evillestest corners on the internet ???

Apparently, the iTunes version is the original RT mix. This has been confirmed on this very forum by someone who has access to various wizards and magical items.
If you want the CD version, I recommend eBay or Discogs and a very large bank balance!!!

I wasn't aware of this difference until I recently purchased a new copy from the re-opened shop. Shame, it's a bit jarring.

We've discussed the difference on this forum quite a few times.

Re: Heaven Born and Ever Bright
Okay, I'm confused. For starters I don't do cyber-music so I have no idea on that front.
However, I have the original vinyl and the original CD, both with the same full-body photo of the lads all standing together.
So, am I msising out on anything?
They both sound fudging fantastic to me, and always have done.
