Codes on Cd's

Postby psparky27 » Sun Apr 06, 2014 21:41

OK so looking at my collection I notice the gaps between between alphCD000 and alphcd005.

So I am thinking that there must have been alph001,002 etc not always cd or lp but at least something right? I have linked the discog page so you can see what i mean .

http://www.discogs.com/label/39570-The-Alphabet-Business-Concern

My theory is that each album had a number and a really good example here is Songs for ships and irons . Thats has ALPHMC014, ALPHCD014 & ALPHLP014.

So if say a recording like baby Heart Dirt didn't have have a CD version there would be no cd number and thus gaps in continuity of the ALPHCD refs.

What i don't get is there are no recordings for 002 & 003 I really wonder what they are?

Do you think they would be Toy World and the Obvious Identity?

Would be interested to hear peoples ideas?

I did some google sleuthing out of curiosity and found this site;

http://www.pressarchive.net/a.php?sName ... &nVideos=1

001 was the Seaside cassette, 002 was the Seaside Treats EP, and 003 was the Mr and Mrs Smith and Mr Drake cassette. It was a fun mystery while it lasted.

The Seaside (1st Version) Cassette (1984) ALPH 001
Seaside Treats 12" EP (1985) ALPH 002
Mr and Mrs Smith and Mr Drake Cassette (1984) ALPH 003/CD Reissue (2004) AME CD004
Big Ship Mini LP (1986) ALPH 004

All from the Wiki discog, which, incidently, I put together :8:

That Press Archive site is bollox! All they've done is copied Cardiacs Wiki page from absolutely donkeys ago!
Hello little doggy,
My, you are a nice dog,
What did you just say then?
You could do some tricks! Oh, good, then will you show me?
My word that's a good one!
Would you like a cigarette?
No you can't, they're bad for you!

you guys agree with my theory that the cds have gaps as somethings like seaside treats (the video) had no cd version?

Yes, not everything that came out was put on CD (or DVD for that matter). I expect the Seaside Treats EP ended up on The Seaside album anyway. Plus, The Big Ship Mini-LP ended up on Songs for Ships and Irons, which also has the Too Many Irons in the Fire 12".

Was crushed to find out the double of Special Garage Concerts has the code DCD 31 and isn't 32.

I believe Sea Nymphs On the Dry Land is ALPH 032.

Sing to God double had its own ALPH number. Them's the accepted rules, whoever gave Special Garage Concerts an already assigned ALPH number has caused ruin to enter the system.

I will have to spend my life being irritated that the second Sea Nymphs album has the ALPH number that by rights should belong to the Special Garage Concerts double issue.
