yerrrrrrrrrsss...a while indeed. Actually I have the Leader of the Starry Skies (but not the Loyal Companion CD)

As I don't have Seventies' deep pockets, I'll report back once I finish the task, sometime around 2030?

Or even later, maybe 9 o'clock. ::roll: (Groan...sorry)

Well, it did look a bit like that until I won Songs for Ships and Irons on eBay t'other day. Plus, it was the '91 original, not the '95, er, remaster. Whoopee! Maybe there is hope after all.

good job!

and with one more buyer now out of the market (me!) it just got a little easier for everyone else.

I'm still after Odd Even and (God willing) Day is Gone, but that's it. The former is not too hard to win, the latter I will probably never have, and that's fine.

Ha! I don't think I have deep pockets, just a high credit limit and an ironclad stomach when I click that "bid" button!

Good luck in all your searches. I hope that your "almost real" copy of OLW helps dissuade you from buying the real thing. That money can now be put to good use on other releases. (it was working for me - and I'm a real stickler - except then I had the chance to buy the real thing for less than I ever thought I could)

It's too bad that the Loyal Companion CD (well worth getting) was limited and sold out. Because the money for those is still helping Tim, as I understand it. You can get it brand new from Believer's Roast still. But there's no way I'd get Disc 1 without Disc 2, and to do that you need to watch ebay and wait.

More seventies news:

I now own every Album by Sidi Bou Said, plus four singles (I only bothered to get the ones that had two or more exclusive tracks on them)

I also bought the Mikrokosmos albums straight from Ignatia recordings... they only made 500, how are they not sold out? How are there not 500 Cardiacs fans out there who think these are essential enough recordings? Especially when they are produced by Tim... (I think they are?)

And no Cardiacs-related collection would be complete without the Levitation and Dark Star albums (3 in total - I can't afford Meanwhile Gardens) plus all singles with at least two exclusive tracks, so about 15 in total... not bad stuff, maybe the least-essential Cardiacs-related material, but worth owning and listening.

Also, the Scaramanga Six are not that Cardiacs-related aside from Tim's Production (correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any Cardiacs member played anything on any of their albums) - but what a wise investment they were. Most of their albums are a fiver on their site, and all the money you spend is theirs as they own their label. Steven personally emailed me, thrilled the band had earned a fan so far away. What a unique band they are. It's really in the "straight ahead rock" vein but there are much more lush arrangements, auxiliary instruments, and proggy moments that keep it very interesting. they are their own band and I don't consider them in the "family" in the strictest sense but you can tell they are influenced by Tim and Cardiacs nonetheless.

You can own all their albums right now for less than half of what STG would cost. Just puttin' that out there.

Remember that there were also three exclusive dowmloadable tracks that you only got when you preordered, as well.

If those tracks are the following, then they're not the extra tracks:

Up in Annie's Room - Katharine Blake
Stoneage Dinosaurs - Steven Wilson
Home of Fadeless Splendour - The Scaramanga Six

I'll have to dig them out on my PC and let you know what they are.

The extra tracks were...

Steven Evans and the Gilchrist Family - The Duck and Roger The Horse
Local Girls - Odd Even
Ham Legion - Dead Mouse

I think the download link from The Genepool still works, so you should able to get them here - http://www.genepoolrecords.com/TIMSMITH/

actually, now that you mention it, those are the extra tracks I bought from itunes after I found out about them.

strangely, the track numbers threw me off here. Scaramanga Six finish off that disc on track 17, but the three extra tracks on itunes are listed as 15 (local girls), 16 (ham legion) and 15 (evens/gilchrist)... so the 15,1 6, and 17 that are on the CD, must NOT be on itunes.

I hate when they do that. However, if there's an album anyone shouldn't be too mad about buying twice, it's this one. That said, they allowed me to buy the three "extra" tracks separately, which is the right thing to do. they don't always do this.

I have everything now...

Just need the Day Is Gone single.

I know how high BSI was willing to go, so I knew there was no sense bidding on this one. Next time, it's mine.

You'd really pay THAT much for the DIG single? Don't be surprised if the Keeper of the Vault ups his bid.

now that nearly a year has passed and it's the only item I'm after, yeah, I'd pay that much.

He will apparently me be helping me to obtain my own copy now that he has one for himself.
