Brilliant album, my second favourite after STG.

Buds and Spawn, Everso Closely Guarded Line, Duck and Roger the Horse - all superb tracks.
Some very clever writing.

I think this was the ultimate peak for the "big" band line-up.

:) :)

Ah, yes - I love this one. It's the first Cardiacs album I bought on release so it will always be extra special for me.

I always think A Duck & Roger the Horse should be the first track but I guess there's a lot to be said for the way the album just suddenly bursts into life with Two Bites of Cherry.

My big regret is that I didn't see them when they toured this album - had to wait until '92 to see them by which time they were using a recorded backing track...

I have a verey soft spot for this album as it was my introduction to Cardiacs on a cassette copied for me by a friend who said "you'll like this"

That said it's not my favourite. That is HBEB, then SFS&I. Then everything else the list ending with Guns.

A couple of the bits weren't as brilliantly bolted together as they would have been had they appeared on STG.

Plus, I fancy I hear a little stutter or two in mister Luckman's drum tracks.

I don't like Arnald that much. Such an easy four to the floor song, it sticks out a bit sorethumblike to me. I suppose though if I'd have got into Cardiacs back then, it might have been the entry level approachable song which helped to ease me in. (In the event, that was Bellyeye on STG2.)

But it's great of course. Sometimes brilliant. Sometimes my favourite album. When I knew little of our heroes I thought this album came later chronologically than it did.

You may notice that I do tend to try to find things about Cardiacs which don't quite score 10/10. Don't get too cross. If we all sat about going "Yeah, ain't it all great" then that would be both untrue and rather creepy. 8)

I think this is my favorite, this or Sing to God. Although, Stench of Honey has always struck me as unimpressive. There have been times where Buds and Spawn would be starting and I'd wonder where Stench of Honey went. I definitely don't hate it by any means, but it's so forgettable.

Closely Guarded Line, on the other hand, beautiful. I like to drive with it at high volumes during the later hours of the day. It's like a dream or something.

No problem with that...I don't adore everything that Cardiacs have done either...I think the majority of the posters know my feelings on 'The Alphabet Business Concern (Home of Fadeless Splendour)'...

I love Stench Of Honey, especially the bassline. Horsehead is a total throwaway, though. Couldn't they've put Goosegash on there instead?
