Ok, here we go then Swapshop fans!
Bear in mind I made this compilation in 2006 for myself from my own Cardiacs collection of the day, and having just acquired the 2 Garage discs with many songs I'd never heard before.
Remember 2006 kiddies, before the massive amount of digital material that we have available today?
It's divided into four sections, that were obvious for me at the time, not som uch any longer, but for posterity & nostalgia, I'll write what I wrote on my homemade CD inlay then. Some of you will have some of these EPS and albums & some of you won't.So for those of you who can't get hold of Cardiacs albums from the website and those of you who are mad completists, this could fill a gap. (that was the sales..eerrr sorry.. sawp pitch)

Anyway here it is:
-----------------------
"HIDDEN" - B sides
*1. Cameras from SFNT 013
*2. Susannah's Still Alive from ALPH 009
(*As of 2006 these 2 songs still only available on vinyl)
3. No Bright Side
4. Ideal
5. Joining the Plankton
(3-5 recorded from ALPH 015 CD "Day is Gone". I also have the 12")
6. Spinney
7. What Paradise is Like
(6,7 ALPH CDS 025 "Manhoo" EP)
8. Hurricane
9. Devils
(8,9 ALPH CDS 026 "Odd Even" EP)
10. Insect Hoofs on Lassie (instrumental)
(ORG 056 CD - split Organ single with Camp Blackfoot - 3 tracks, Cardiacs - 4 tracks)
11. Sang 'All away Away'
12. Dog-Like Sparky (instrumental)
(11,12 ALPH CD 028 "Signs" EP)

"NEVER BEFORE HEARD"
13. Gloomy News
14. Pip As Uncle Dick But Peter Spoiled It
15. Let Alone My Plastic Doll
(13-15 ALPH CD030 "Garage Vol. I")
16. Pilf
17.An Ant
18.Hello Mr. Minnow
19. Hopeless
(16-19 ALPH CD031 "Garage Vol. II")

"THE FUTURE"
20.Faster Than Snakes with a Ball and a Chain
(ALPH CD029 "Greatest Hits")

"LIVE LONG AGO..."
21. Hymn
22. The New General
23. Bitter Pill
(21-23 from a Camden Town bootleg cassette entitled Rarities)

PILF!

(Underrated by me anyway. I've been walking around with it combusting in my head for a few hours, trying in vain to remember what it was called.)
Do you know what I mean to say
I meant to say to you today
A day goes by I try thats why
I try to speak to you today

I take it they're live cuts, not studio outtakes?
Hello little doggy,
My, you are a nice dog,
What did you just say then?
You could do some tricks! Oh, good, then will you show me?
My word that's a good one!
Would you like a cigarette?
No you can't, they're bad for you!

One i don't think anyone's mentioned is 'Abade' by the Sea Nymphs. Was listening to that over and over the other night. Such a haunting beauty of a thing and perfect for the end of a mixtape i'd wager.

Too bloody short though :(

Made me look, but you're right, I couldn't see much, how dare we. It's like the album was actually a jumble sale in a village hall, and now it's mostly empty except for a few people chatting and the last trestle table being taken down, and someone's daughter's plinking away on the knackered piano in the corner. I can taste the orange squash. Er, yeah.

How about "Core" - is it underrated? Obviously its on the Greatest Hits but it doesn't seem to be a 'staple' Cardiacs tune that rouses discussion. I always put it on mixtapes for friends with growing Cardiacs curiosity, I think it has some of the best elements of Tim's songwriting whilst being fairly simple. Belter.
If I went to a BBQ and there was no meat, I'd be like, "Hey, Guber! Where's the meat?!"

Yes a little underrated and prob for the reasons you mentioned but still very solid. I still think greatest hits title was firmly tongue in cheek :) Either that or a marketing trick to get it in the shops ..."ooo a greatest hits album...that should always sell units"

An album with faster than snakes can't be not good :D

I bought when I did'nt have all the other albums, and it was cool to hear all those differeht songs... but I always loved the first version of heaven born, the one without the extra super mastering...

Sterbus I have the original Heaven Born too... what does the re-release/remaster of that sound like? I'm curious...

Thios have been discussed many times before, so you can read this post viewtopic.php?f=5&t=48&hilit=heaven+born&start=90 it contains too the waves!!!

(anyway, the rough trade versions are less bombastic and have more gentle guitars, even when distorted, the ABC are distorted and the drums are heavier) if you search carefully you should also find a quote by Tim saying that he thought people would'nt have really minded the difference...

I could be wrong, but I think that:
Anything I can't eat ROUGH TRADE:
