I continued my streak of narrowly avoiding the Truckers...the friend I was attending with was far more concerned with getting beverages and food on before GbV, and so...sorry no report.
Of Guided By Voices, this was apparently the last gig of the "Classic" line-up - so, tons of the 'hits' from Bee Thousand, Vampire, Alien Lanes, Propeller era - Robert Pollard still on top of his game, high kicking and swilling tequila enough to begin shlurring his wordsh sherioushly between-songs - but then delivering the next tune with perfect aplomb. The band though - were kind of sloppy. Time for giving them a rest.
After that we saw Sir Richard Bishop doing his guitar raga thing in a fancy opera house - passing a giant debutante ball on the way to the venue -! Christ, the South...after that were the SWANS - I was expecting to hate it and it ended up being one of the more wonderfully strange live events in recent memory. They are shamans of sound. Any bunch of idiots can be loud, but these guys know what they are doing!
Here is a small indication of what I witnessed:

I've got to dig into their albums - an old roommate had one of their LPs in the 80's - it was just nihilistic dirge to my mind.."Raping a Slave"ha ha. I want to check out their new (2010) stuff for sure.

A really singular gig in town tomorrow night - Hans-Joachim Roedelius playing at a scuzzy punk club venue 'Strange Matter'-!
Yeah that Roedelius... :)

Saw Soundgarden at Manchester Apollo on Friday. They were great but the setlist was terrible. They played eight tracks from their crappy come-back album and they never played Jesus Christ Pose! That's like Skynyrd not playing Freebird!

Nothing to see here...
Hello little doggy,
My, you are a nice dog,
What did you just say then?
You could do some tricks! Oh, good, then will you show me?
My word that's a good one!
Would you like a cigarette?
No you can't, they're bad for you!
