Re: Knifeworld
Anyhow a solid Knifeworld tune, I like the large horns and dynamic shiftings. It hasn't grabbed me like "In a Foreign Way" or "Clairvoyant Fortnight" if we're judging by hit snigles. Maybe a grower...

Re: Knifeworld
(see, this is the new Facebook paradigm - with links to the video and download appearing there last month, and nobody bothering this place with 'em) Well gee, shlep, that sorta begs the question, doesn't it ... Bob I've done my share of carrying water to here from the popular social networking site...

Re: What you Reading at the mo?
Just finished '2312' by Kim Stanley Robinson - very odd, entertaining sci-fi - of the old school, actual science gets into the mix with speculative fiction; I gather that the author has a grounding environmental science. The story is sort of incoherent - concerning a power struggle at a pivotal mome...

Re: Kayo Dot
Gamma Knife is my least favorite, for the sound quality. Indeed it does sound chaotic and not fully formed!
Try 'Choirs of the Eye' or 'Coyote' - the latter described by some pundit as a 'metal album with no guitars'...

Re: Kayo Dot
http://kayodot.bandcamp.com/ is the place where you can hear most of their output - except for the current one, three tracks only so far. Including the cruelly truncated by internet journalists Tartar Lamb II piece. Good luck to you. ps You may find your time more profitably spent listening to Kavu...

That was 'Roulette TV', I'm sure he didn't edit the piece.

Here's another, less noisome, more chamber music-y aspect of what he does, Tartar Lamb

I'm all for the individual evolving beyond the moral equivalencies of corporate capitalist consumption. As much as possible, we can change the way things are by using free will, taking small decisions and voting with our wallets, feet, whatever you've got. Occupy the Music Marketplace! I don't alway...

Re: Kayo Dot
Mr Snard, I am amazed - I thought this was a band that was lyrical and yet, so mind-bogglingly COMPLEX and difficult, to my poor ear anyway, that you would at least be partly on board. Oh well. Objectively horrible. :) Thanks for admirable restraint, before chiming in. FOR THOSE SO INCLINED to take ...

Bumping this one. more. time. What is WRONG with you people? Have you heard music like this before? (and...Can you ever hear surf music again?) Not going to be to everyone's taste of course...self-described as "progressive rock, avant-goth, weird metal, undefinable band based in Brooklyn NY.&qu...

Re: Supporting Art in the Digital Age
Interestingly, Mike Johnson of Thinking Plague linked the same Byrne article on the band's FB page, and then got trolled by some guy who thinks that artistic integrity is its own reward. Mike got a little mad about it: << Does everyone really begrudge a musician wanting to be a "professional&qu...

Re: Supporting Art in the Digital Age
Byrne did allow that he's not going to starve (and Fripp's doing OK I would guess, just persnickety), being lucky enough to be able to draw a crowd for his concerts, etc - but pointed out the difficulty for someone like his pal St Vincent, one or two semi-popular albums under her belt but no steady ...

Re: Supporting Art in the Digital Age
David Byrne doesn't know the answer but poses some good questions. http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/oct/11/david-byrne-internet-content-world Mainly on the basis of accountability and fairness - Spotify -and their ilk- make money, the recording industry makes money, the consumers get free music...
