Welcome again, Sir M!

Many thanks for that Bob! :D

Yes, I'm back, with another generous helping of lightweight commercial fluff, as you can see. Enjoy!

Re: Early Music

Here are the links to both discs of Diaspora Sefardi , medieval music from the Sephardic Jews of the Iberian peninsula. The first disc consists of songs, the second is instrumental: http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/Di+spora+Sefard+CD+1/4564339 http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/Di+spora+Sefard+CD+2/4564...

Re: Classical

Here's another piano piece that might well be of interest, Mussorgsky's Pictures From An Exhibition. This is obviously known mainly in the orchestral version which was orchestrated by Ravel, but it was originally written for piano. Personally I like both the orchestral and piano versions.

Re: Zeuhl/Avant-Prog/Etc.

This has probably been mentioned on here already, but just in case it hasn't, there's a 2CD Magma live album from 1974 which was apparently released only in May of this year. It's this set . It's getting rave reviews and the price is decent so I've ordered it. I've only just come across it by accide...

Re: Trad

Her specifically Bulgarian music is absolutely mathy as hell It would be very handy if there were a CD full of that stuff, but a quick look at discogs only shows three CDs, all of which have titles that sound more Turkish than Bulgarian. It would be very irritating if the best stuff isn't even avai...

Re: Trad

Funny how one thing leads to another. On the What did you listen to thread I was checking out Minnow's inclusion, without a word of introduction, of the Gunesh Ensemble -- which turns out to have a drummer who is Turkmenistan's answer to Terry Ted Bozzio. More on them there. But that led me to Aziz...

Re: Classical

Speaking of extended classical works, are you familiar with Glass' Einstein On The Beach? seeing as it's considered an opera i'm guessing probably not, but i've been wanting to give it a go for a while now and am waiting until a time when i can commit to the full thing. I think the stage version is...

Dayum! How excellent is the Shutter Island Soundtrack for great modern classical? "Fog Tropes" (Ingram Marshall) – (Orchestra of St. Lukes & John Adams) "Symphony No. 3: Passacaglia – Allegro Moderato" (Krzysztof Penderecki) – (National Polish Radio Symphony & Antoni Wit...

Re: Early Music

Gesualdo - Miserere Again, not much to say, but wow  I'm pretty sure that recording is from this set (it names the Hilliards on the YT link and the 9:05 timing there is identical to that given on the Amazon listing). It's one of the towering glories of the Gesualdo discography. Here's a Tall...

Re: Where's psparky27?

Whether or not he has a recognised clinical mental health disorder, his behaviour throughout the whole sorry saga certainly reeked of an overwhelming feeling of insecurity. He seems to find anyone who can string two sentences together hugely threatening, as though they were doing it to attack him. T...

Hence the old joke about two behaviourists who have just had sex. One turns to the other and says, "well that was great for you, how was it for me?".

Re: Where's psparky27?

Being a Cardiacs fan in no way mitigates being an asshole. I don't care if he was the biggest Cardiacs-head in the world, let the fucker rot. /thread. Frankly i'm amazed that some here are still willing to sympathise with him about this, "oh, if only we'd tried to engage with him more" &q...

Re: Where's psparky27?

It's a shame he's been booted but I can see why- I watched the debacle slowly unravel on various threads, itching to attempt some kind of mediation (sometimes, possibly foolishly, in Sparks defence) but knew it would be pointless so kept my gob shut... It might have been interesting to see his resp...

Re: Where's psparky27?

:) Yeah, I see where your coming from Baf, but it's words like "attack" that bother me. Being "attacked" by Sparky was surely about as traumatising as having a big chocolate labrador slobber on your leg. :) It was easy enough to destroy his "arguments", to the extent t...

Re: Where's psparky27?

He kept arguing that people like Bubby, Minnow, Tech and myself (not to mention dogs and Worms, old-timers who he never lost an opportunity to personally attack) were ruining the place by talking about stuff other than Cardiacs .......even though those discussions were taking place in those parts o...
