Re: The Return of the Radio Twitchings
On Liz Kershaw's 6 Music programme there's a section called 'All Filler No Killer' where she interviews listeners about their favourite album. Last Saturday it was a 14 year old boy talking about Sing To God! To be honest it's not very interesting, the poor lad was a bit nervous (well he is 14). Whe...

Oh, right. Well, it was about 5 seconds and he looked about 17 to me!

Re: Where have you seen a Cardiacs t-shirt?
I saw a Cardiacs t-shirt on, of all things, BBC 4's Metal Britannia the other day. Right at the end there was a shot of some kid sitting on his bed wearing said item.
Sorry, that's not very interesting really.

Re: Pixies reemergence
Indie Cindy's fine and hangs together well considering it's really just a compilation of ep's. I actually prefer it to Bossanova, which remains the least favourite Pixies album. This is more like it anyway - first recording featuring new bassist Paz. Much better than anything off Indie Cindy imo. ht...

Re: St. Vincent
Well, she's a bit more high profile these days isn't she. Must admit I'd never heard of St Vincent until reading a glowing Guardian review of her latest album a while back. Intrigued, I got it and like it a lot despite the rather homogeneous production. Also it's less Bush, more Madonna in places bu...

Re: Songs that make you blub
When I saw Lars von Trier's 'Tree of Life' this piece of music completely floored me, I was literally blubbing in the cinema. John Tavener - Funeral Canticle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCxDZaWRAvo Full version - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1LbCOmdb8M On a less high brow note, this song can...

I saw that post, wondered for a moment if it was partly directed at me, deduced it probably wasn't, never gave it a second thought.
Anyway, yeah, Guns is reet gud intit (I'm from Yorkshire).

Re: Guns
The only bit I don't care for is the outro of Will Bleed Amen, oddly cliched for Cardiacs I think. Man, talk about difference of option! That's like my FAVORITE part of the WHOLE album. MAYBE even my FAVORITE cardiacs moment EVER! That's really strange to me; one of the reasons I love Cardiacs is t...

Re: Major Parkinson
I don't really hear any specific Cardiacs influence, which I don't mind either way I find this odd - for me MP absolutely scream Cardiacs, but at the same time have their own special 'thing' going on. As many others, I'm not a fan of that kind of vocals... musically, judging from the three or four ...

Re: Major Parkinson
New album Twilight Cinema is out and it's a joy from start to finish. Although very Cardiacs influenced they definitely reside in their own little universe. Only 8 tracks & 40 minutes long though, that's my only disappointment. Streamed here http://majorparkinson.bandcamp.com/album/twilight-cinema

Re: Guns
I think Guns is extraordinary. It took me a while to 'get it' - I was a bit disappointed initially as it sounded relatively mainstream to me, a bit too 'streamlined' for want of a better word. Spell has one of the most original melodies I've ever heard, I love the head-spinning bass line (particular...

Re: Reasons why Cardiacs are a complete one-off
What even IS that? Ha, I think that also sums up Cardiacs for anyone hearing them for the first time, whether the reaction is love or hate (usually hate. sadly). Lots of great 'moments' listed above. There's also: 'Duck say the horse is daft... Alright ' - really funny and oddly exciting simultaneo...

Re: Reasons why Cardiacs are a complete one-off
Thanks snardbafulator, good call with Bellyeye. I enjoy reading your posts very much by the way. Another wonderful moment for me is the repeated 'Look I know everything/Knowledge forms the best of me' from 'Icing on the World'. I'm no 'muso' so it's difficult to articulate why - only, like the afore...

Reasons why Cardiacs are a complete one-off
I was musing how Cardiacs have had such an impact on me since I discovered them a few years ago. I'm nearly 50 years old and, until the moment they took a stranglehold, nothing musically had genuinely excited me since my 20's. There are many and varied reasons of course, but right now I'm thinking o...
