Re: Tragically Late to the Whole World Window.

Great observations overall. DOes anyone know where Gloomy News originated? I can't find the original song on any discography lists. It just magically shows up on Garage Concerts vol1. But... if its a songs written when they were "babies" then I figured it would be Obvious Identity, Toy Wo...

Re: New Stars In Battledress Album, "In Droplet Form"

Just a reminder that this is available now. It's bloody good and will need several more listens from me to fully unravel. Some of the melodies nicely earworm in that way most of us on 'ere enjoy. Standouts so far - Hollywood Says So (maybe the most Secrets and Signals-ish. Is this an old song? I'm ...

Re: Kate's Bush

That's my problem with the doc's whole perspective. If you're doing it about a pop star, it's perfectly appropriate to spend the most time on the aspects of their career when they were most popular and focus more on songs the higher they charted. But if you're doing one about an artist, especially ...

Re: Pixies reemergence

Thought it was a bit disappointing, really - not anything wrong with the record, but what I'd want now from a Pixies album is probably different from what I loved 15 years ago (or whatever it was). Lot better than it could have been though. Yeah. I think if they'd released a new album a decade ago ...

Re: Tim Smiths Extra Special Oceanland Land World

The whole album is full of striking bits of lyrical brilliance that seem to come from nowhere and knock you for six when you actually realise what he's singing. From England's: "Instead I drink the tiny whirlpools that make me skid and turn in my sleep where I burn" And the last verse of &...

Re: Mysterious Background Music

William D Drake did all those little instrumental pieces(apart from "Captain Pugwash"). The bit that plays when the Consultant is tormenting Bill("I HATE YOU!") is his first ever solo composition I think.

Ivor Cutler - "I'm Going In A Field" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwAJ8J9nobU I don't think anyone combined absurdity and melancholy quite like Ivor. Real crying and laughing at the same time stuff. Here's a beautiful piece of mysterious provenance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emWWY...

Mostly playing in other people's bands, it seems. But yeah, eleven years is some pretty serious procrastinating!

Any good psych/prog/weirdo folk to check out? The Comus album hasn't done much for me thus far :? I wouldn't give up on Comus just yet, but if you find it doesn't grow on you then fair enough. How much of the folkier side of Current 93 have you heard (e.g. Swastikas For Noddy , which definitely qua...

Re: Scary Music

"The Drift" by Scott Walker is one I can't listen to very often as the effect of it so intense and unsettling it usually puts in me an awful place for hours afterwards. It's that powerful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fJ0_uWjMfk It's funny, people always claimed "Tilt" was thi...

Hymn wasn't on the Seaside cassette

It was the secret hidden track after Nurses on Side 1. It's only about thirty seconds long and very quiet, so I guess you could say it's not really a "proper" version, but it is there.

Re: Mares nest dvd out now!!

Great to see Mares Nest out on DVD. Dare we hope that a DVD release of Seaside Treats could be in the pipeline? Perhaps filled out with other videos currently only to be found on YouTube like Tarred and Feathered , Day is Gone , Is This the Life , Susannah's Still Alive and those early promos of A ...

Another one for the swipe file! I was just listening to "Faith Healer" by the Sensation Alex Harvey Band, and the opening line caught my ear - "If your body's feeling bad/and it's the only one you've had..."
